Job Description

The programme trains graduates to teach Mathematics at KS3&4 (11-16 age range) across the full ability range. Applicants must be educated to degree standard and possess a good background in Maths (i.e. a Maths degree or a related subject with a significant Maths element covering Pure Mathematics e.g. Engineering).Trainee must be familiar with the content of the National Curriculum which can be viewed online at www.qcda.gov.uk.


It is an advantage for trainees to understand calculus and at least one of mechanics, statistics or decision mathermatics.


For candidates with A level Maths but whose degree is in another subject, the Maths Subject Knowledge Enhancement courses (SKE) provide an opportunity to boost SK to the required level. These courses are of various durations (from one month to one year) and are available at a number of locations. There are 6 training places available altogether, one of which is available via the School Direct scheme.

Qualifications A degree in Mathematics or a related subject such as Engineering.
GCSE English & Mathematics at grade C or above.
Compensation Training bursary dependent on class of degree.
